@Herb - I might consider upgrading if there was only one format rather than two.

@Todd - Instant access to media is the future, we just have to climb the DRM hurdle.

I just wrote a very similar article on Friday. I see the end coming for all content distribution on optical media. It's going to take time, but it will happen.

Digital distribution is great for consumers and media companies alike. Consumers get instant access to a variety of content and the companies can control it better than physical media. A win win...well...a win for consumers so long as things don't become too restrictive.

You make some very good poitns and i couldn't agree more! Going from VHS to DVD, from audio tapes and LPs to CDs made sense because of the dramtic difference in visual and audio quality. This time around the marginal increase in quality just doesn't justify the cost.
