Among this, my favorite would have to be the Terminator Trilogy. Imagine machines taking over our world, that's really scary! Makes me want to side on them already... lol

Re: The Top 15 Geek Movies of All Time

Fun little list. I'd like to add 1983's "Wargames" & Darren Aronofsky's "Pi." I think I'll go rent "Legend."

Re: The Top 15 Geek Movies of All Time

Prozac (fluoxetine) for Bulimia: This has made such a difference to my life. It is like the "voice" that continues to tell me I am too fat and that all the "bad" things in life would be better if only I were thinner, has weakened. It is still there but I don't have to listen, if fact I can even ignore it. What a relief. It has made me realize just how much time I was spending listening to all the negative thoughts, planning the food, covering up the vomiting. I finally feel "normal" what a relief.

Re: The Top 15 Geek Movies of All Time

Lord Of The Rings I wouldn't put in, i fins it more of a fantasy than a geek type. But that's just me. As for Star Wars. I was happy to see it there. lol. Yes I think of it as a geek movie.

Is it sad that I have seen most of the movies on this list?

And what about the Back To The Future trilogy? Would that classify in your list?

Re: The Top 15 Geek Movies of All Time

Great list - I was really pleased to see that Manhattan Project was on here!

I also agree with the suggestion for Time Bandits. I would take out LOTR and Star Wars - not really geeky movies, but then there are so many different kinds of geek - ie Alien movie type geeks and Time Bandit movie type geeks, they don't always play well together.

Re: The Top 15 Geek Movies of All Time

@polyGeek - Thanks! As for Star Wars and LOTR, I understand your argument. There are a lot of other people that love these movies that don't claim to be geeks. However, I felt like I couldn't leave them out. People used to make fun of me all the time for these movies...or maybe it was because of the books, the lunch box and the Halloween costume of Chewy that my Mom made me? I guess we'll never know for sure. I haven't seen Sneakers so I will definitely have to check that out. Jimerl also mentioned War Games so I feel like I will definitely have to amend the list after a few more "research" evenings.

Re: The Top 15 Geek Movies of All Time

Great list. When was about to click on the link to this page I thought to myself, "He better mention Real Genius." Number one, geek minds think alike. I personally wouldn't have added Star Wars and LOTR just because they're not really geeky. Just that geeks love them.

In their place I'd add Sneakers and War Games. I just watched Sneakers with my in-laws - both in their 60s - and they loved it. And it's still one of the most prescience movies out there.

Re: The Top 15 Geek Movies of All Time

@jimerl - You make some good arguments. Broderick's early movies are very good but the Producers took a toll on his awesomeness for Geek movies (Ferris and Ladyhawke!). War games will definitely be considered in the next list though...besides, there way more than 15 Oscars handed out.

Re: The Top 15 Geek Movies of All Time

c'mon. war games!? who's geekier than broderick? the only movie with a real non-geek girl (oh i see, too unrealistic). i still have my hayes micromodem 300 - encased in amber of course.

Re: The Top 15 Geek Movies of All Time

@Goob - That's a good movie, good plot, probably one of Quaid's stronger roles! I'm still not sure about Meg Ryan though, she kind of upsets me sometimes.

Re: The Top 15 Geek Movies of All Time

I think Innerspace deserves atleast an Honorable Mention

Re: The Top 15 Geek Movies of All Time

@zee thirteen - Honorable mention?! No, no, no...Office Space definitely deserves it own category, you are correct on that! The problem (or not really a problem) is that Office Space speaks to so many genres of people. Basically, anyone with a job and a boss. Therefore, Office Space transcends our "Geek" list but will definitely be on the "Greatest Movies of All Time" post that is coming soon. Have no fear.

Re: The Top 15 Geek Movies of All Time

office space doesnt even get honorable mention?

Re: The Top 15 Geek Movies of All Time

@BrIan - Thanks for the comments. I haven't seen the first four you mention but I will definitely check them out. I see it as poor preparation on my part as an academy member. I had 2001 on the list but decided to go with a round number. Besides, I always feel sorry for Hal. I was going with "Best Use of a Monolith" and should probably add it to the list in honor of Hal.

Re: The Top 15 Geek Movies of All Time

Possible additions:

Brazil
Time Bandits
Logan's Run
Day of the Triffids
2001 (can't believe you left that one off!)
