Just wanted to thank you for your initial posting about compiling ssh support into netatalk on *buntu (I use xubuntu myself, as I dislike gnome). I found other guides, but the build options in them did not work properly. While I have a lot of experience compiling software by hand (coming from a Solaris background where there are no real complete package systems), I don't quite understand the subtle differences in build techniques using apt and dpkg.

A shell short cut--chown & chgrp can be done at the same time: chown user1:group1 filename

I've been trying to set up TM backups to NFS with zero luck even using the sparsebundle tricks, so have switched to AFP which is why I found your guides to be so helpful.

"sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras" will install flash, java, almost any codecs you're likely to need, and java. Dvd support still requires the use of the medi repositories however.

Apple Mail.app will now only show the messages contained within Gmail's Inbox (not the All Messages box). Is this what you mean? Any message you 'flag' in Apple Mail with show up as 'starred' in Gmail. Perhaps if you tell me more about your setup, I could be of more assistance ...

What happened to the rest of my folders - all mail, starred etc. totally changed the way everything works.

I'm on Linux, but it should be platform independent. I just realized that you have to check "Enable stumbling shortcuts" under Tools>Toolbar Options>Shortcuts

Instead of using the browser button to add/remove StumbleUpon, I recommend using the Ctrl+F11 keyboard shortcut. Much much easier.

Well, Cleoptra 2525 does have Gina Torres (Zoe from Firefly) and Victoria Pratt (Shalimar from Mutant X), so maybe I was a bit hasty in my judgment. I'd still rather see Hulu focus on adding some classics and uploading all seasons/episodes for shows already available.

That page is the google support page for the sync ability described above. To confirm bring up the 'Address Book Help' window. Then search for google and click Show the 'Synchronizing with Google Contacts ' topic. The link to the google page is at the bottom. Note, be sure to bring up the help window then search, searching from the menubar doesn't work for this topic. Too bad the directions from the help topic omit the required tips listed above. I'm thinking 10.5.4 might remove some of these troubles.

With the settings above Drafts will be stored locally as you mention. You can create a /IMAP/Drafts and assign the mailbox to Drafts. After doing so Drafts will be stored on the Gmail servers.

This tip will create /IMAP/Trash and /IMAP/Sent lables in the Gmail interface and will map the 'extra' Trash and Sent folders to the default ones in the Mail.app interface.

Could you give us a description of precisely what this is doing to the gmail and mail interfaces? For example, are drafts now stored locally? Because why not store them on the server, where one can access them home and away?

You are correct about needing the Yahoo account for iSync's 'Sync Now' to show up in the menubar. Do you perhaps have a device you could add to iSync or a .Mac account? Here is the list of iSync compatible devices,

I personally don't have a Yahoo account to setup, and my experience has been that it won't enable sync without being able to sign in to the yahoo service.

That is certainly an issue, I'm hoping Google will in the future allow users to disable this feature in the settings.

Seems like gmail adds the email address to its address book for every person I email. So I'm not sure if I want my apple address book of email addresses i will never use.

Did you enable Yahoo syncing as well as Google? You will need to enable Yahoo syncing or alternatively have a device (such as a phone or PDA) configured in iSync for the Sync Now option to show up. Let me know if this doesn't fix your issue. Might try a restart after step 3 if you are having trouble. I promise you it will eventually show up.

Hi all,

I was getting stuck on Step 4 - I could not get iSync menu option or Syncrospect to allow me to manually sync. But I did run this command in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/GoogleContactSync.framework/Versions/Current/Resources and it worked: ./gconsync --sync gconclid --register 1 --username myusername@gmail.com --password mypassword --syncmode fast

if you just run ./gconsync it tells you some command line options that you may wish to change. Once I ran this, I started resolving conflicts and my Address Book entries grew by about 400% or something like that

Hope that's another clue for some of you.
