For a FREE offering, Firebug is an awesome extension. I use it daily for a range of debugging issues and web site development. You can use it for your own site or to see how another is constructed as well as accompanying CSS used to style pages and elements as well as viewing scripts (JS). Its features are plentiful and it has saved me hours of work. Highly efficient!

Another great extension is All-in-One Gestures by Marc Boullet. It allows you to control your browsing by using easy mouse moves, like clicking the left mouse button and then dragging left to go back a page. The idea was originally introduced in Opera. It really speeds up browsing significantly and makes it more enjoyable.
@STA - Thanks for the suggestion, I added a reader recommendation section to the post. If anyone else knows of a great FF add-on that I've overlooked, let me know.
