Gimp does a fine job in many cases but the quality and comprehensive features of Photoshop can't be compared to Gimp.

Re: A List of Great Mac Freeware Applications

That is a very good suggestion. I'll test Butler for awhile and consider adding it to the list. Thanks!

Re: A List of Great Mac Freeware Applications

Butler? Menubar dropdowns. Fully customizable. Integrates with the GUI. Scriptable. Keyboard shortcuts. Why is this never on anyone's list???

http://www.manytricks.com/butler/

FAR better than Quicksilver

Re: A List of Great Mac Freeware Applications

Thanks for the feedback. I hope you enjoyed the list. However, an individual paying $650 for Photoshop CS3 is crazy! Pixelmator does a great job for $60. Now, I will certainly agree that GIMP is no Photoshop but I think $650 for a single program is a rip off. Don't get me started about CS3 phoning home on users and how long CS3 apps take to startup on a Mac.

Re: A List of Great Mac Freeware Applications

Great list, but I'm oh so tired of people dissing Adobe for what they charge for Photoshop. I've used it since it was a scanner driver and I've used *all* the alternatives and frankly, while 'gimp' is cool, it's NOT even close to Photoshop in utility, usability, quality and capability. Of course it is an application for professionals. Come down from the high horse and keep-up the great list w/o the grudge.
